The Basque nationalism in exile (1937-1960) was published in 1977 by Txertoa publishing house. It is part of a series ( The Basque nationalism; from carlism to the bourgeois nationalism, Basque nationalism and social classes). This series has to be framed in the context of the age: identified with the birth and the development of ETA; a large group of Basque intellectuals try a deconstruction of the PNV ( Basque Nationalist Political Party) ideology and use the marxist analysis as a way to get it. Following the way started by Federico Krutwig ( Vasconia), they are going to denounce the classy, conservative and religious contents of "aranism" to the cause as foreigners. What is more, in an attempt to join the Basque national freedom with the universal movement of social freedom, they are going to look for some bridgeworks between the local struggles and the double revolutionary movement of the working class in the metropoli and the oppresed towns in the colonies. Yes, on its whole, those books were read, criticised and well known.
The Basque nationalism in exile was especially scandalous because apart from explaining the fall of the PNV in the non-action which opened the doors to ETA, put two thorny problems on the table: the relationship between members of the PNV and the nazi occupants in France and the collaboration between the Basque and American secret services. This new edition wil let the youngest people see the intellectual atmosphere in the 70-s and it will also remind everyone that there are things which have not been cleared yet.
