This book rescues part of the beautiful and dramatic life of a woman, famous in her time as a photographer and vanguard political activist during the first part of the twentieth century. Some took her for a heartleá Soviet agent, others ignored her politics in order to save her as an artistic figure. Diego Rivera immortalized her in his murals handing out weapons to the people. Perhaps the simplest way to describe her is to say that she was free and a woman.
