Taking the origins of religion in the Basque Country as a starting point, this book explores the several periods and tradition of its complex process. In which way have its religious water changed, caming from early springs? Which are the tributaries that have joined it? What were the effects and what remains today of the impulsive river of Christianity that seeps into the Basque land? Through that historical overview, it is shown the evolution of myths and symbols in the consciousness of people, which was maintained, defended and renewed despite political, economic, religious and cultural attacks against the identity and rights of Euskal Herria.
Are we now in a plural and secular delta where the religious Basque river flows into a sea where water is diluted? Saying that our society and culture can not be already regarded as religious does not mean that myths and beliefs have evaporated in mists dispelled by the sun of modernity and secularism. They keep on flowing through the land of the Basques, but their meaning is different.
