The utopia generation.Political awareness, secrecy, exile in Europe, war in the dessert, reconstruction and meetings in Angola, the liberated country are the steps which show the vibrating rhythm of the novel; encircling and precise at the same time, which place the utopia as the backdrop before which the characters will choose like in life itself the most unlike paths: from commitment, devotion and fight to opportunism, betrayal and forgetting.
Pepetela rescues from his memory the thousand faces of the fight for the independence in Angola; making use of his personal development and of the vital experiences of a group of friends, members of a same generation; who see how the way towards their country liberation will irremediably determine their relationships, love and decisions; questioning without any cynicism their own expectations and contradictions.
