Venezuela is living moments of intense change, carrying out a battle to recover its own identity and sovereignty.
This is occurring after forty years in which the so-called democratic parties, in essence, took over the country, corrupting the power structures until they converted them in mere platforms for personal enrichment and developed a political program completely subjected to neoliberal policies.
The masses took the streets in 1989; they were massacred by the democrats in Caracazo in 1989 but later supported the Boliviaran military rebellion. Hugo Sanchez understood the message of the most humble part of the population and began constructing the movement that could confront the corrupt party system.
This book tells with detail the story of four decades of struggle, with the knowledge that the current process might cause a certain confusion, but it will never be considered as wasted time. All that has been accomplished, and all that remains to be accomplished, has helped to renew the idea that independence in Latin America is possible. Popular mobilization remains as the ultimate guaranty.
