“Food be your medicine and medicine be your food” is the aphorism which Hipocrates left us 2400 years ago. It is again a subject of great importance at the beginning of the 21st century. What do tomatoes have that do not nuts have? What does fish have that does not yoghurt have? Must we eat soya bean? Although we are in the middle of a nutrition revolution, the press often mislead us with fragmentary and contradictory data about this or that food. And advertising bombs an illiterate population in nutrition with technical information: antioxidant agents, omega-3, fitosteroles, prebiotic agents… forming that way new fashions which make our diets more expensive.
The good news is that including healthy foods is easier than giving up the unhealthy ones. This book gathers important scientific discoveries and at the same time collapses myths and criticizes the advertising lies. What are the phytochemical agents? Which foods are they plentiful in? Do we need additional supplies? And what about functional foods? In nutrition, as in almost everything, knowing is equivalent to power.
